PDP Endorses Tinubu, Adeleke For Re-Election After Failed APC Move

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has officially endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in the 2026 governorship election after talks of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed.

In a surprise political twist, however, the Osun PDP also threw its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his ancestral roots in the state as a key reason for the endorsement.

The development was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo.

The communiqué, made available to newsmen on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, was jointly signed by Governor Adeleke, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and 24 other party leaders.

According to the communiqué, Adeleke’s decision to remain in the PDP followed strong opposition within the APC ranks to his proposed defection.

“The decision of Governor Adeleke to remain in the PDP is in response to the rejection and attacks from within the APC over his possible defection,” the communiqué stated.

“This move has further united the PDP in Osun and reaffirmed our confidence in his leadership.”

The party expressed concern over the manner in which some APC members castigated Governor Adeleke on national television and social media, even though the governor never formally confirmed plans to leave the PDP.

“We condemn the disrespectful comments made by some APC members. Governor Adeleke has always prioritised the welfare of Osun people and should not be dragged into unnecessary partisan attacks,” said PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi during the meeting.

Despite speculation about internal dissatisfaction with Adeleke’s leadership, the party leaders unanimously endorsed him to fly the PDP flag in 2026.

“We are proud of Governor Adeleke’s achievements so far. His five-point development agenda is restoring good governance, and we believe he deserves to continue,” said Senator Lere Oyewumi.

In a move that raised eyebrows, the PDP also endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“Osun State is the ancestral home of President Bola Tinubu. As a son of the soil, we believe in supporting him for another term,” the communiqué read.

“This endorsement is not partisan; it is a recognition of shared identity and political realism.”

The communiqué directed all party structures in the state to begin disseminating the resolutions and urged Governor Adeleke to remain focused on delivering his administration’s development agenda.

“Governor Adeleke and all PDP members in Osun State should remain committed to the party. The leadership is united, and we must now focus on governance and service delivery,” former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola added.
