Paul Chukwuma condemns worsening insecurity in Anambra, decries murder of Fish Magnet

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) Governorship candidate in the November 8 Anambra State election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has commiserated with the Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, over the abduction and killing of her only son, Martins Onyekesi, popularly known as Fish Magnet.

Martins, a promising fish farmer in Awka, was abducted by armed kidnappers from his family compound in Okpuno, Awka, about ten days ago. Despite efforts to secure his release, his captors murdered him, sparking outrage and grief across Anambra State and beyond.

Chukwuma, accompanied by his running mate, Mr. Uzu Okagbue, visited the bereaved family on Thursday at their Awka residence.

Signing the condolence register, the YPP candidate expressed shock that criminals could trail the victim to his home and escape through what he described as a “difficult and narrow access route.”

“This young man’s death is particularly painful — an only son, for that matter,” Chukwuma lamented.

“How did the kidnappers escape this route? Was there no way they could have been stopped? He was a very hard-working young man. Those who did this will not escape the severest wrath of God.”

“The tragic incident has once again underscored the worsening insecurity in Anambra State. Nearly a year after the disappearance of Awka-based businessman, Big Ben, his whereabouts remain unknown, heightening fears that the state capital is becoming a hotspot for violent crimes.

Community leaders and residents have renewed calls on security agencies and the state government to intensify efforts to curb criminal activities, especially in Awka and its environs.
