Pastor Adefarasin: Pointing Stun Gun At Another Person Criminal Offence – Police

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that pointing a stun gun at another individual constitutes a criminal offence under Nigerian law.

This clarification comes in the wake of a viral video that appeared to show Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock and convener of The Experience worship concert, pointing what the police have confirmed to be a stun gun at a car spotter who was filming his vehicle earlier this month.

The incident, which sparked widespread criticism on social media, showed Adefarasin confrontating the car spotter while seemingly holding the stun gun.

Many viewers assumed the object was a real firearm, raising concerns about public safety and appropriate conduct.

In response, Pastor Adefarasin denied brandishing a firearm.

“I want to assure you of this — that that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone,” he said in a public statement.

He reiterated this during a sermon on June 8, adding that the incident had caused him emotional distress.

Despite his denial, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed on Tuesday night that a stun gun was recovered from the pastor.

Adefarasin had earlier reported to the Command Headquarters in Ikeja for questioning following the public outcry over the video.

Commenting on the matter during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, said the law treats any object made to resemble a gun and used to instill fear seriously.

“Under the Firearms Act, if you fashion out anything that is not even a metal, like wood, and make it look like a gun, and use that guise to take possession of property from another person, you have committed armed robbery,” Jimoh explained.

He further stated, “pointing out a stun gun to another individual and sending that threat and fear to such a person at that particular time constitutes an offence.”

Jimoh added that although Pastor Adefarasin has been granted bail, investigations are ongoing.

“The pastor is still under investigation. Although he has been granted bail. We’ll continue the investigation and make the outcome of the investigation public to all Nigerians to know,” he said.
