The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said that imports of Premium Motor Spirit, dropped by 67 per cent which is an equivalent of 30 million litres.

The authority said importation fell from 44.6 million litres a day in August 2024 to 14.7 million litres by 13 April 2025.

The Chief Executive Officer, of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, said this on Tuesday during a briefing in Aso Villa.

He attributed the development to increase in local supply which he said rose 670 per cent within that period.

He said local refineries delivered 26.2 million per day in early April.

This represents an increase from the 3.4 million litres recorded in September.

Farouk attributed the rise to the restart of the Port Harcourt Refining Company and increased volumes from modular refineries.

In November, consumption was 56 million litres and February 52.3 million litres.

In March, it slipped just below 50 million litres target at 51.5 million liters

In the first half of April, consumption was 40.9 million litres.
