The Oyo State Government has procured two surveillance aircraft worth N7.76bn to enhance security operations in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, announced this after the state executive council meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

The newly acquired “DA 42 MNG model aircraft” are designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, and are equipped with advanced technology capable of identifying targets from varying altitudes.

Oyelade said, “The two aircraft already procured cost N7.76bn and will effectively back up Amotekun and other security forces in the State to prevent and destroy bandits in their hideouts.”

He added that the aircraft would support the state’s efforts to tackle insecurity, including banditry, illegal mining, and kidnapping.

He highlighted the aircraft’s relatively low maintenance costs, availability of spare parts, and compatibility with the Nigerian Air Force fleet, which would enable inter-agency collaboration.

The council also approved a total of N83bn for the continuation of the 110-kilometre Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road.

The fund will cater to the construction of interchanges, bridges, and the clearing of the Northeast and Southwest segments, particularly around Molarere, Odo-Oba, and the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University corridor.

According to Oyelade, the 72-kilometre stretch of the road currently under construction is scheduled for completion before the end of Governor Makinde’s tenure.

In addition to the road network, the council allocated N36.3bn for asphaltic improvements on several key roads: Secretariat Road, Trans Amusement–University of Ibadan–Sango Road, and Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Road.

Another N6.8bn was approved for the reconstruction of the Mobil–Oluyole Industrial Estate road network to improve accessibility in the area.

For the state’s power infrastructure, the council sanctioned N595m for direct intervention in the operations and maintenance of the Light-up Oyo Solar Project.

The project will receive a monthly allocation of N190m for ongoing maintenance.
