The Oyo State Police Command on Friday said its operatives arrested two members of an alleged armed robbery gang that attacked a couple in Ibadan and carted away cash and valuables worth millions of naira.

The command, in a statement posted on X, disclosed that the incident occurred on June 15, 2025, around 3 p.m. when three armed men confronted a man, identified as Dotun Agaba (real name withheld), and his wife, Jiji, outside their residence at Bashorun area of Ibadan.

The armed gang allegedly forced the couple into their apartment at gunpoint and dispossessed them of 52 grams of gold jewelry valued at about N7.5m, an iPhone 13, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other valuables.

The criminals also transferred N4.5m from the couple’s MoniePoint account into the account of a female accomplice before fleeing the scene on a motorbike.

According to the statement, the matter was initially reported at Ikolaba Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, where detectives launched a discreet investigation.

The police, on September 3, 2025, arrested two suspects at their hideouts. They were identified as 35-year-old Omole Ridwan, the alleged gang leader, and Adegbile Adewumi, 45, the female suspect whose account was used to siphon the stolen funds.

During the operation, police recovered several dangerous weapons linked to the gang, including —An AK-47 rifle with breach number 1057 (without magazine), one double-barrelled pistol, one metal object fashioned like a gun, one axe, and two cutlasses.

The suspects, the command noted, have voluntarily confessed to their roles in the crime and provided information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.

The Oyo State Police Command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and more updates would be provided in due course.

For emergency reports, residents are advised to call the Police Control Room via 08081768614.
