Oyo/Osun Customs Command Rakes N25.8bn In Three Months
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said it generated N25.8bn in revenue between March and May 2025.
Comptroller of the command, Joseph Adelaja, said the revenue marks a 36.67 per cent increase compared to the N18.2bn collected during the same period in 2024.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Adelaja attributed the revenue growth to the dedication of customs officers, strict enforcement of customs laws, and improved trade facilitation measures.
“In light of the ongoing economic reforms, the command has successfully collected the sum of N25.8bn covering the period of March to May 2025.
“The generated revenue represents an increase of 36.67 per cent when compared to the sum of N18.2bn collected in the same period of 2024,” Adelaja said.
“The implementation of modern trade facilitation tools has enhanced compliance among excise stakeholders, ensuring that revenue leakages are effectively reduced and, in turn, plays a vital role in the Federal Government’s economic reforms and supports the national development,” he stated.
Adelaja also disclosed that the command intensified anti-smuggling operations in May 2025, leading to the seizure of prohibited goods valued at N335.6m in Duty Paid Value (DPV).
He listed some of the intercepted items as 310 used compressors (N9.3m) cleverly concealed in apple cartons; 1,698 bags (50kg) of foreign parboiled rice (N153.8m); and 130 kegs (25 litres) of Premium Motor Spirit (N3.3m).
Two vehicles—one used white Mazda bus (N5m) and one metallic blue Toyota Sienna (N9m)—were also intercepted.
Other seized goods include: 21 drums (125 litres) of unspecified liquid products (N3.2m); 226 used tyres (N18.1m); 67 sacks of used clothes (N40.2m); 37 bales of used clothes (N26.6m); 130 wraps of used clothes (N26m); 4 sacks of used shoes (N3.4m) and 68 wraps (39kg) of Cannabis Sativa (N1.2m)
The command also seized fake pharmaceuticals, including ten cartons of Everzorol Cream 20gm (N4.5m); five cartons (10 Amp) Zytocin Oxytocin (N1.8m); 27 cartons of Phinimal Arteether Injection (N13m), ten cartons of Areechy Zinc Sulphate 20mg (N15m) and 16 cartons of Biovilo 13.125mg (N2.4m)
Adelaja added that efforts to protect local industries and safeguard public health by the command were ongoing.
He said approvals have been granted to hand over the seized Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the counterfeit pharmaceuticals to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation.
He expressed appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and his management team for their continued support.
Adelaja also acknowledged the contributions of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, traditional rulers in Oyo and Osun states, and sister security agencies for their cooperation.
