Over 238 Shortlisted For Ibe Osonwa Scholarship
The Ibe Okwara Osonwa Foundation (IOOF) has shortlisted 239 applicants for the next stage of its highly competitive Tertiary Education Scholarship Program, aimed at supporting Nigerian graduates seeking postgraduate study opportunities abroad.
The foundation, which launched the program to foster global academic exposure for young Nigerians, confirmed the conclusion of its application review process seen by THE WHISTLER.
“This marks a significant step forward in our mission to invest in Nigeria’s future leaders,” the Foundation said.
“We are proud to support 239 outstanding individuals who met the eligibility requirements to proceed to the next round.”
The IOOF scholarship is an initiative of the lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Ibe Okwara Osonwa and exclusive to his constituents.
The scholarship is for a fully funded, one-year postgraduate program that includes tuition and visa sponsorship.
The Foundation said the programme is designed to open international academic pathways for qualified Nigerians, particularly those who are underprivileged.
However, the Foundation emphasized that the scholarship covers only the first year of a postgraduate program, and urged candidates to make financial and logistical plans for subsequent years where applicable.
“Applicants pursuing multi-year programs must be proactive about securing additional funding and ensuring timely visa renewals beyond the first year,” the statement read.
Education analysts view this initiative as a strategic response to the rising demand for overseas postgraduate education among Nigerian youth amid limited local opportunities and growing emigration interest.
The Foundation said further details regarding the next phase of the selection process, including interviews or documentation review, will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates in the coming weeks.
