Over 1,000 Nomadic Children Benefit From Bauchi State Vacation Courses

Over 1,000 nomadic children from the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Bauchi State have benefited from nomadic vacation courses organised by the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for Nomadic Education (BASANE), Alhaji Ahmad Bello disclosed this during a send-forth ceremony for the nomadic children held at Government Girls’ Secondary School, Yana, in Shira LGA.

Bello said the initiative aimed to improve access to quality education for nomadic communities.

He noted that the vacation courses focused on foundational subjects like English and Mathematics, critical for careers in science, engineering, and social sciences—fields essential for national development.

Bello thanked parents, traditional leaders, local government authorities, and stakeholders for supporting the program.

He commended girls’ participation and urged parents to encourage daughters to complete their education and pursue careers for the nation’s progress.

He pledged that BASANE would continue to identify and reach underserved areas in Bauchi State to establish schools.

Bello also noted that the Nomadic Vacation Courses marked a significant stride in bridging the education gap for nomadic communities and fostering a more inclusive educational environment.

Also speaking, Shira LGA’s Executive Chairperson, Alhaji Babangida Ishaq, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad’s educational priorities, especially expanding access to nomadic education.

Represented by Umar Sarki Dango, he pledged collaboration with nomadic leaders, traditional and religious leaders to promote girl-child education.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in Shira LGA, Alhaji Muhammadu Ore, applauded the state government for restoring hope among nomadic communities through inclusive education via BASANE.

He added that the children had benefited from both educational and health support during the vacation courses, expressing the commitment of the association to ensure that the agency’s objectives is achieved.

In her remarks, the Principal of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Yana, Mrs. Salina Bala, stated that the girls also received training in menstrual hygiene during the programme, which enhanced their personal sanitation and well-being.

She commended the students’ performance and their impressive grasp of the subjects taught and express gratitude to the statement for the programme.
