Otti’s Aide charges NIMC to partner INEC, security agencies for credible data management
The Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Caleb Ajagba has called for greater collaboration between National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, and security agencies in data management .
Ajagba made the call while addressing Abia State Coordinator of NIMC, Ukpabi Eni and his officials during their courtesy visit at Government House Umuahia
He described accurate data as a powerful tool in national planning and development, pointing out that the war against insecurity and electoral malpractices in the country can be achieved with the right application of data.
“Obviously, you cannot plan without data, and data gathering has been a major problem in the country. Today, we are not even sure of our exact population, so how can we plan?” said Ajagba.
He called for a deepened sensitisation and collaboration with stakeholders to enhance the use of data in Nigeria.
In his address, the NIMC Coordinator in Abia State, Mr Ukpabi Eni, explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders in the state, adding that NIMC considers the Abia State Government a vital partner in its mandate of identity management.
He lauded the state government for its openness to integrating identity management into governance and emphasized the importance of National Identity Number, NIN for national planning, development and security.
