‘Otti Working’ – No Plan To Sanction Orji Kalu Over Visit To Abia Governor, Says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has debunked reports suggesting that the party is planning to sanction Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over his recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, describing the information as false, mischievous, and aimed at stirring internal strife within the party.
In a statement signed by Chief Chidi Avajah, Secretary of the APC in Abia State, the party dismissed a press release allegedly circulating in its name titled ‘Disciplinary Action Awaits Those Involved in Anti-Party Activities ~ Abia APC’. Chief Avajah categorically denied authoring or authorising the statement.
“The publication is spurious, misleading, and does not in any way reflect my views or the official position of the Abia State APC,” he said.
Chief Avajah clarified that contrary to the claims in the forged statement, the Abia APC is in full support of Senator Kalu’s outreach efforts, including his high-profile visit to Governor Otti, who is a member of the Labour Party.
The visit, he noted, is part of broader strategic moves aimed at bolstering APC’s position in the state and across the South East.
“The leadership of the APC in Abia is very pleased with the recent visit of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, to Governor Alex Otti,” the statement read.
“The visit is viewed as a strategic engagement aimed at wooing Governor Otti to support President Tinubu’s re-election — a move considered vital in strengthening the party’s position.”
Kalu, a two-term Senator and one of the most influential political figures in the region, had met with Governor Otti a few days ago in Umuahia.
Photos and video clips of the meeting, where both men exchanged pleasantries and discussed development issues, went viral on social media and ignited speculation of political realignment.
Chief Avajah said the APC welcomes “every sincere effort to broaden its reach and deepen its support base,” including outreach to former members and influential stakeholders, regardless of their current political affiliations.
“Senator Kalu’s outreach to key stakeholders, including opposition figures, is part of mobilisation efforts to reposition the APC in Abia State and galvanise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he explained.
The party also used the opportunity to call for unity and maturity among party members, warning against internal sabotage and fake news campaigns designed to undermine the party’s leadership and momentum.
“The Abia APC encourages unity, strategic collaboration, and political maturity — not needless internal wrangling or factional provocations,” said Avajah.
“I caution the public, media houses, and party faithful to disregard the false statement and treat it as the work of mischief-makers seeking to sow division within the party.”
He concluded by reaffirming the APC’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu and working with other political actors across party lines to deliver good governance in Abia and Nigeria at large.
“We urge members of the APC in Abia and across Nigeria to remain focused on the bigger goal of delivering good governance through strategic alliances, effective mobilisation, and support for President Tinubu and the national leadership of our great party,” the statement added.
