Otti Vows To Crack Down On Fake Products In Abia
The Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti says his administration is set to crack down on the production and distribution of fake products in Aba, the commercial hub of the state.
Cemetery Market, a major market in Aba known for production of fake products, has been a frequent target of raids by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Speaking on Thursday night at the Government House Banquet Hall, Umuahia, during the January 2025 Media Chat with journalists, Governor Otti emphasized that anyone capable of counterfeiting a product is also capable of manufacturing an original one.
“If you can fake a product, it means you can actually manufacture your own and put your name on it. But because of greed, you choose to produce a copy and pass it off as the original.
“I have directed our agencies to continue where NAFDAC stopped in raiding the market for fake products.”
“I have no issue with anyone creating their own brand, but we are against counterfeiting established products,” he added.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the people of Abia for their unwavering support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects across the state.
“I want to start by thanking all Abians for the massive support you have given to this government, which you brought into power exactly 20 months ago.
“One thing you can take for granted is that this government is here to work for you—to secure you, to protect your business, and to defend your interests. And when I talk about interests, I mean those of the larger majority, not the insignificant minority whose goal is to blackmail what we are doing.
“99.9% of Abians are happy. We don’t need to focus too much on the few who benefited from the old system and will never appreciate the progress we are making, the Governor stated.
