Otti Reaffirms Commitment To Improve Education NBU Second Matriculation
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing education and driving sustainable development in the state.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the second Matriculation Ceremony of Nigerian British University (NBU) in Asa, Abia State, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, underscored the government’s dedication to providing quality education for all.
Governor Otti while highlighting the government’s investment in education, revealed that 20% of the state’s ₦700 billion annual budget has been allocated to the sector, in order to enable a strong commitment to ensuring accessible and quality education.
Additionally, the governor also reiterated the administration’s policy of free education for all children in the state, a move he said is aimed at eliminating barriers to learning and equipping young people with the tools for future success.
“the government of Abia state remains deeply committed to the advancement of education as a driver of sustainable development. If you follow the government well you will notice that they allocated twenty percent of the annual budget of seven hundred billion naira to the education sector that shows how Abia state government is committed to ensuring that our children have quality education. We equally have heard that this government has given free education to all children so that every child will have access to quality education. We will continue to invest in quality education so that our young ones can have access to better education”.
Governor Otti also advised the newly matriculated students to embrace their academic journey with diligence, discipline, and a quest for knowledge, stressing that success is no longer determined by grades alone but by practical skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to innovate in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
“I will advise the matriculating students to not only focus on acquiring academic knowledge but also develop the essential sub skills, innovative thinking, leadership skills that prepares you for the competitive global landscape, time has gone when people ask wether you have a first class or second class now people judge you based on what you can do”.
In his remarks, The Vice-Chancellor of Nigerian British University (NBU), Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, after his congratulatory message advised the newly admitted students to approach their academic journey with dedication, discipline, and a commitment to excellence, warning that their conduct will be closely watched as representatives of the institution.A
“As from today you have become part and parcel of NBU, therefore, your conduct shall henceforth come under intense public scrutiny. You must take actions that stand you out positively as good Ambassadors of the institution. I encourage you to approach your studies with determination, enthusiasm, and a hunger for knowledge. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and let your passion for learning ignite the flame of curiosity within you. Remember, the future belongs to those who dare to dream, and I have no doubt that each of you possess the potential to shape the world with your brilliance and dedication. As you navigate through the corridors of academia, always hold your heads high with courage and confidence. Believe in your abilities, persevere in the face of adversity, and never underestimate the power of resilience”.
