The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Council of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) describing them as the transformation team of the University.

During the inauguration which took place at the Governor’s residence in Nvosi on Monday, Otti noted the significance of the appointments, emphasizing the high level of trust and confidence placed in the members of the council.

Addressing the council, the Governor also expressed optimism about their ability to reposition ABSU as a leading institution in Nigeria and beyond.

“Welcome to the transformation team of Abia State University, Uturu. These are interesting times for our university, and without sounding immodest, I must say that for you to have found yourself as one of the people that will champion this transformation, it means a whole lot.

“I know that all of you are people of integrity, with good records, and we have no doubt that you will do your best to change our university to one of the best universities in Nigeria, if not Africa,” Otti said.

Inaugurating the council, he said, “It is on that note that I hereby inaugurate all of you into the Governing Council of the Abia State University, Uturu, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Congratulations.”

In their response, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, expressed gratitude on behalf of his colleagues, vowing to deliver on the Governor’s vision for ABSU.

“Your Excellency, I want to assure you that we will not fail you, ourselves, or Abians. Each of us knows the challenges facing ABSU, and we are ready to hit the ground running. We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to turn around the fortunes of the school,” Agwu said.

He further assured the Governor and the people of Abia State that the council would work closely with the university’s management and staff to address pressing issues and implement strategies aimed at making ABSU a top-tier university.

“Our goal is to not only make ABSU one of the best universities in Nigeria but also the number one state university within the next three to four years,” he added.

The Chairman also pledged to engage in regular consultations with the Governor to ensure progress and accountability in the council’s operations.
