Otti Inaugurates Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency Members

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has inaugurated the governing board of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency (ASERA).
The board, an offshoot of the Abia State Electricity Law of 2025, will be responsible for regulating and driving the institutional dynamics of the electricity market in the state.

Members of the board are drawn from reputable national and global institutions and agencies operating in the energy and allied markets.
They will be coming in with vast experience and commitment to set a new standard for efficiency and competitiveness in the electricity value chain in this part of the world.
Those sworn in today include:
- Engr. Iheanyi Y. Weze,
- Onwuegbule Karen Eberechukwu
- Dr Joy Oti.
Two other members of the board will be inaugurated at a later date.
ASERA is a newly established regulatory body for electricity generation and distribution within Abia State, following the signing of the Abia State Electricity Bill into law.
The agency aims to regulate the electricity market in Abia State, ensuring an efficient and investor-friendly environment.
They will also oversee the implementation of the new electricity market framework and ensure compliance with regulations.
Governor Otti, after signing the bill into law, expressed commitment to expanding electricity access across the state.
ASERA will also be protecting existing and prospective investors in the energy sector in the state.
