Osun Senators Who Dumped Adeleke For APC Miscalculated — Bamiji
Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Hezekiah Bamiji, has slammed the defection of two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a “miscalculation” based on unfounded political speculation.
Speaking Thursday morning during an interview on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief,” Bamiji reacted to the defections of Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), who announced their switch to the APC on Wednesday.
The senators’ defection came amid growing rumours that Governor Adeleke himself might be planning to leave the PDP for the ruling APC — a narrative Bamiji firmly rejected.
“Maybe what I can say is a kind of miscalculation on the part of the lawmakers,” Bamiji said during the interview.
“The rumour perhaps overwhelmed them. Thinking that the governor was coming [to the APC], they felt that, as Abuja politicians, they should be faster than the governor.”
Bamiji stressed that Governor Adeleke remains firmly rooted in the PDP, which he described as a party that “gave him the platform to serve the people” and “continues to enjoy the trust of the Osun masses.”
He questioned the motives and process behind the defections, suggesting that the lawmakers acted unilaterally without consulting the governor or their constituents.
“The governor is the leader of the party in Osun State,” Bamiji said.
“I felt they should have consulted with their leader and perhaps also the people in their various constituencies, but I am not sure that was done. Even if the governor was going to move, did they ask the governor any questions?”
According to him, the move was not only premature but politically ill-advised.
“Yes, the APC set a trap for them, and they entered,” he declared.
The defections have triggered fresh political debate in Osun State, with analysts pointing to the rising tension between PDP loyalists and defectors who may be attempting to align themselves with federal power structures.
However, Bamiji maintained that governance remains the top priority for Governor Adeleke.
“The governor doesn’t need to move to the APC to deliver for the people of Osun State,” he said. “He is already doing so under the PDP and will continue to do so.”
