Osun LG Crisis: Adeleke wept for 15 minutes – Osun Education Commissioner

The ongoing local government crisis in Osun State took a dramatic turn over the weekend when Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly wept for 15 minutes before a cabinet meeting, DAILY POST gathered.

Eluwole, who disclosed that the governor was deeply distressed during a recent meeting with members of the State Executive Council disclosed that Governor Adeleke wept uncontrollably for about fifteen minutes and was unable to begin the meeting until he was consoled.

The revelation was made by the Osun State Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, during a Digital Literacy Training for teachers held in Ede.

“On Saturday, Mr Governor wept for 15 minutes before he could start a meeting, 15 minutes! They were pacifying him,” Eluwole stated.

The crisis stemmed from the legal battle between the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over control of local governments in the state.

The Court of Appeal had reinstated APC-elected local government officials previously removed by through a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo judgment, a ruling the PDP continues to oppose.

As a result of the legal tussle, the federal government has withheld local government allocations from Osun State since February 2025.

This has placed enormous financial constraints on the state government, affecting several sectors, including education, healthcare, and local governance.

The Education Commissioner lamented the impact of the impasse on state development, particularly in the education sector.

He said,“If not for what is happening since February till now, we would have seen many provisions in the schools by now. It is in the pipeline.”

He noted that the state government has had to divert funds meant for infrastructure and development to cover salaries for primary school teachers, local government workers, health personnel, and traditional rulers.

Describing the emotional atmosphere in government circles, the commissioner said even traditional rulers have been moved to tears.

“Everybody is taking their money as at when due. That is why we don’t have more teachers in schools.

“A traditional ruler wept recently because of the situation. There is a serious problem at hand,” he remarked.

In a related development, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has outlined specific conditions that Governor Adeleke must meet if he wishes to join the APC.

Omisore’s comments follow speculations that Adeleke is exploring a defection from the PDP to the APC ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

Speaking during a television interview monitored on Wednesday, Omisore said Adeleke’s bid to join the APC could not be achieved through political affiliations outside the state.

The former senator emphasised that Adeleke would have to join the APC from the grassroots level if he is serious about becoming a member.

“You cannot be meeting Governor Dapo Abiodun to anchor you into our party. Politics is very local. If he must join us, he has to start from the grassroots,” he added.

Omisore accused the governor of being motivated by fears over re-election, saying, “Adeleke is only scared of losing the second term bid, which is why he is seeking to contest under the platform of the APC.”

He, however, acknowledged Adeleke’s constitutional right to freedom of association but warned that proper political procedures must be followed.

“I’m not saying Adeleke cannot join the party. He has the constitutional right to associate with any party,” Omisore said.
