The Osun State Government on Wednesday gave approval to the Ministry of Education to commence interviews for applicants who made the cut-off mark in the planned recruitment of 5,250 teachers across the state.

THE WHISTLER recalls that Governor Ademola Adeleke in February 2024 approved the recruitment process of teachers for public schools in the state.

The state sold forms for interested individuals after which ICT test was conducted for the applicants.

Subsequently, the Osun State Government after an executive council meeting on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Education to commence interviews with applicants who passed the test.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the council meeting presided over by Governor Adeleke gave the directive after receiving updated reports from the Commissioner for Education, Hon. He said “The Council, while emphasizing the need for a meritorious outcome further directed the Ministry of Education to issue a detailed official notice on the interview exercise, listing the dates and venue of the interview exercise.

“The Council noted that the delay in the conclusion of the exercise was due in part to the protracted negotiations on the new minimum wage which has now been concluded and for which the state government has set up an implementation committee for commencement.”

Alimi added that the council further approved the issuance of letters to teachers on the elongated service programme.

“By this announcement, all applicants are requested to check their individual recruitment portal or Email for their scheduled date for the interview exercise.

Meanwhile, Osun state now has a new draft Procurement Bill (Amendment) Bill which is designed to block any loopholes in the state procurement process.

The proposed amendments were approved by the council while the chairman of the council, Governor Adeleke has signed a letter forwarding the bill to the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Adewale Egbedun for legislative action.

Other resolutions of the Council include a directive on preparation for the second-year anniversary of the state government, commendation on sectoral performance for some ministries, and a directive for deepening public engagement among others.
