Osun 2026: Ex-Buhari’s aide, Omoworare joins governorship race
Former Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Omoworare, who is running under the banner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presented his manifesto to the party’s leadership on Monday and expressed determination to lead the party back to power in the state.
Speaking during a meeting with the APC State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and other party stakeholders, the former lawmaker highlighted his consistent track record at the polls, boasting of an unbroken string of electoral victories.
“I have contested five elections and have never been defeated. Even when attempts were made to rig me out, I pursued justice through the courts and prevailed. By the grace of God, I am a five-star general in politics,” Omoworare stated.
He decried the current state of governance and infrastructure in Osun, citing National Bureau of Statistics data that places the state at the bottom of the food inflation index in the South-West region.
Omoworare said his political roots run deep, referencing notable family figures in Yoruba politics.
“I am a thoroughbred progressive. My great-grandfather was an ‘Afenifere’, and my maternal grandfather, the Ooni of Ife, served as the first governor of the Western Region. Politics runs in my veins. The PDP didn’t win Osun; the APC lost it. But we won’t lose again. I’m here to help us reset and rebuild.”
APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal in his remarks, described Omoworare as a seasoned politician and a dedicated progressive, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the next election cycle.
