Osimhen Injury: Galatasaray Confirm Extent After World Cup Qualifier Knock

Galatasaray has issued an injury update on Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen after he picked up a knock while playing in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

The 26-year-old forward, who recently signed for the Turkish giants in a high-profile move, was substituted after appearing to struggle with discomfort during Nigeria’s narrow 1-0 win. His withdrawal sparked concern among both Galatasaray and Super Eagles fans, given his importance at the club and international level.

In a statement, Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen had undergone preliminary medical assessments upon returning from international duty. The club revealed that the injury was “not as serious as first feared,” but further evaluation would be carried out to determine the exact recovery timeline.

Osimhen sprained his ankle and is now receiving treatment, the club said in a statement posted on its official website on Tuesday after medical tests were carried out on the player.

“In the examinations performed today at our sponsor hospital for our Football A Team player Victor Osimhen, a moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments, and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible,” reads the statement.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, faces a busy run of fixtures in both the Turkish Süper Lig and European competitions, where Osimhen is expected to play a pivotal role.
