One-term presidency: I don’t need psychiatric evaluation – Peter Obi to Soludo, Adeyanju
Former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi has responded to remarks that he needs psychiatric evaluation for saying he would be president for just one term of four years.
Obi said contrary to claims, he has never been subjected to psychiatric evaluation nor has he ever been to a shrine to swear.
Yesterday, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, at a rally, said any politician promising to serve just one term needs psychiatric evaluation.
A few days ago also, activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, claimed that even if Obi swears in a shrine to do just one term, Nigerians won’t vote for him.
However, a statement signed by Ibrahim Umar, of the Peter Obi Media Reach, POMR, said: “Recently, I became aware of two statements aimed, albeit indirectly, at my vow to serve only a single four-year term.
“One person remarked that even if I swore by a shrine, I still wouldn’t be believed. Another suggested that anyone talking about doing only one term should undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
“In my political life, my word is my bond. I fulfilled each of those promises without deviation. I did not swear by a shrine, nor have I been certified mentally unstable as a result of honouring my word.
“If making such a promise qualifies me for psychiatric evaluation, then we may as well question the mental fitness of those who framed our Constitution, which clearly stipulates a four-year renewable tenure.”
Obi vowed to dedicate himself to transforming Nigeria from a consumer-based country to one that is production, agriculture, technology, and manufacturing driven.
