One killed, two injured as car collides with tricycle in Lagos
A deadly collision between a Toyota Venza and a commercial tricycle on Egbe Bridge, inward Ikotun, has killed one and left two others severely injured on Tuesday.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, said the crash occurred when the Toyota Venza, with registration number GWA 659 RD, attempted to overtake another vehicle atop the bridge and swerved into the path of an oncoming tricycle (Marwa) with registration number EPE 245 QM.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the tricycle operator died instantly, while two passengers, a man and a woman, sustained multiple fractures.
LASTMA officers at the scene rescued the victims from the mangled tricycle before handing them over to police from the Ikotun Division, who took them to the General Hospital, Isolo, for emergency care.
The driver of the Venza reportedly fled after the crash. Police say a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him for reckless driving and abandoning the victims.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the bereaved family and wished the injured a swift recovery.
He said, “This heartrending incident serves as a grim testament to the lethal consequences of impatience and the blatant flouting of traffic laws.
“All road users must cultivate discipline, foresight, and an uncompromising adherence to safety protocols to avert needless tragedies on our roads.”
