One Dead, Nine Rescued As Building Collapses In Lagos
One person died on Tuesday while nine others were rescued alive after a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Otta Ona Junction, near the Mobil Filling Station bus stop, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 2:00 p.m, prompting emergency response.
At least three persons are trapped beneath the rubble.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said no fatalities have been recorded yet.
“Nine adult males has been successfully rescued and attended by LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit,” he said.
“The Agency`s Heavy-duty equipment, ‘the excavator’, has been activated and deployed to aid in the quick rescue of victims trapped beneath the collapsed structure.”
Search and rescue efforts by emergency responders are still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
While the exact cause of the collapse has yet to be determined, the incident has raised fresh concerns about construction standards and building approvals in Lagos.
