Ondo: Sex workers call for protection after demise of colleague in brothel brawl
Following the death of their colleague who allegedly died in a brothel during a brawl with a male client, sex workers in Akure, Ondo State capital have requested protection from the government in the course of their duty.
While expressing shock over the sudden demise of their colleague, the sex workers appealed to brothel owners as well as government agencies to come to their aid.
The sex workers operating in the state lamented that they are prone to attacks, hence the need for adequate security around them.
The request followed the killing of their colleague in a brothel in Akure during a brawl when her client demanded a refund of N15,000 following his dissatisfaction during an overnight session.
According to a close associate of the deceased, the victim was not feeling well on the night of the incident, hence the inability to satisfy the male client who was outraged.
“I can tell you that she was not feeling fine that day but she still agreed to the customer’s request. He paid N15,000 for overnight sex.
“He started struggling with her the next morning when he felt dissatisfied. Others intervened and pleaded with him to calm down but he refused to listen to the pleas but he later left the brothel.
“The man returned, demanding a refund. By then, she was very weak and was unable to access her phone to return the money. And none of us knew her password to help her.”
Another colleague of the deceased, who gave her name as Precious, disclosed that their nature of job drains physically and emotionally and appealed for more support that will protect them from abusive clients.
“That man clearly wanted more from her. We found only used condoms in the room. If we had proper regulations, this might not have happened. We don’t have any choice but to make sure we use something to protect ourselves.”
