Market traders in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have announced the closure of markets in the ancient city.

The traders noted that the closure became necessary in order to honour the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.

Our correspondent reports that Olakulehin joined his ancestors on Monday, 7th July this year.

Our correspondent gathered that the final burial of the traditional ruler has been slated to hold today.

In order to honour the traditional ruler, the traders noted that they have shut markets in the ancient city.

The Babaloja General in the state, Alhaji Yekeen Abass, while speaking, said that traders have been mandated to shut markets today in order to honour the traditional ruler.

He added that the partial closure of markets in Ibadanland is expected to start from 5 a.m. till 12 p.m. today, Friday, August 8, 2025.

He advised traders to ensure strict compliance with the directive in their various markets.
