Olubadan Dies At 90

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90.
The revered monarch reportedly died in the early hours of Monday during ongoing ceremonies marking his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation.
Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne following the death of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
A source within the Olubadan-in-Council disclosed to Punch that the news of his passing had been received by the traditional council but noted that an official announcement from the Oyo State Government is still awaited.
“We received the message that the paramount ruler passed away this morning. He has joined his forefathers. Though it has to be officially announced by the state government,” the source told the outlet.
Another palace insider confirmed the development and revealed that the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and former governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who is next in line for the throne, is currently outside the country.
“He must have been briefed,” the source added.
