Ohanaeze Tasks Enugu Residents On Mbah’s Transportation Initiatives
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended the transportation initiatives of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.
Ohanaeze stated this in a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ikechukwu Bismarck Oji.
Quoting Oji, “Ohanaeze celebrates with Ndi Enugu over the launch of Holy Ghost Terminal 1 (Enugu Central Station 1), designated for inter-state transport; Holy Ghost Terminal 2 (Enugu Central Station 2) for inter-city transport; Nsukka Terminal (Nsukka Central Station); Abakpa Nike Terminal (Abakpa Central Station), and Gariki Terminal (Gariki Central Station), as well as 100 CNG buses, Enugu Transport Management System, among other transport infrastructure initiated and completed by the Mbah administration.
“We are glad we now have a South East transport infrastructure and system that can compete with modern terminals around the world.”
The pan-Igbo body equally urged residents to support the Mbah initiative by taking ownership of the facilities and using them responsibly.
In another development, a group, Nsukka Progressive Youths Movement, Monday, faulted the standard of the structures at the Nsukka bus terminal which was commissioned by Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State last Thursday.
The group, in an open letter to Gov Mbah, signed by one Comrade Emmanuel Udeagha, commended them for his achievements since assuming office. He however argued that the structures at Nsukka terminal were not comparable to other ones which were commissioned in the state.
According to him, “We can see your unprecedented infrastructural revolution in the state capital: the International Conference Center, the revived Hotel Presidential, and the bus terminals at Holy Ghost, Gariki and Abakpa-Nike respectively standing with a golden touch. All these were accomplished without the total annihilation of their market places.”
According to Udeagha, the terminal built at Nsukka did not befits the demolished Ogige Market, which was partly removed for its construction.
He said, “We will not accept this infrastructure on our people. We are pleading with you to correct your mistake for the sake of equality and peace. Do not consider this letter as a voice from the diaspora, or that of the kids, it is sounding with so much spiritually and elderly backing.”
Gov Mbah had during the launch stated that, “The terminals are a central pillar of our transport agenda–a multimodal highway to the future–integrating road, rail, air, and waterways into one seamless, safe, and efficient ecosystem.
“They represent our capacity to deliver projects that empower Ndi Enugu and set our state on a robust trajectory of growth. Already, this project is creating jobs, stimulating SMEs, and positioning Enugu to compete with Africa’s best. Through it, we’re creating over 20,000 jobs across BRT, 2,000 hybrid city taxis, airport operations, ride-hailing, and support services.”
