Ogun Wins Gold In Women’s Handball At Sports Festival
Hosts Ogun State defeated Team Sokoto 38-34 to win the gold medal in the Women’s Handball event at the Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
Team Ogun started the encounter with intent and purpose, winning the first half (18-17).
The hosts improved in the second half to close out the encounter with a four-goal margin to add the medal to their tally in the games.
Team Sokoto earned the silver medal, while Team Edo went home with the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, in athletics, Team Edo’s Faith Osamuyi won a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles on Wednesday.
Osamuyi recorded a personal best time of 13.26s to win the race.
In the men’s category, Team Delta’s Wisdom Great Musa won the gold medal with a time of 14.15s.
In the women’s 800m final, Akwa Ibom’s Comfort James earned the gold medal with a personal best time of 2:04.05s to emerge victorious.
Hamid Sambo of Team Edo won the men’s 800m final in a time of 1:51.10s.
Team Ogun’s Aderonke Akanbi shattered her previous festival record of 11:07, clocking an astonishing 10:28.04 to win in the 1500m women’s final, making it two gold medals at the National Sports Festival.
