Ogun Police Thwart Kidnap Plot, Nab Notorious Fugitive
The Ogun State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt in the Abigi area, apprehending a long-wanted serial kidnapper, Clement Elijah, along with key members of his gang.
Elijah, who had evaded arrest since 2024, was implicated in a high-profile abduction in Ajelanwa village.
He was captured by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after returning to the Ibiade community on June 13, reportedly planning to kidnap a prominent resident of Ago Village, Abigi.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the operation was made possible through timely intelligence and cooperation from local residents.
“Elijah arrived Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, and planned to abduct a prominent individual in Ago Village, Abigi, but his sinister mission was thwarted through timely collaboration between the police and vigilant residents,” Odutola said.
Further operations on June 16 led to the arrest of Posi Friday, suspected to be the gang’s armourer.
Police recovered a pump-action rifle, a homemade pistol, and eight live cartridges hidden inside a Boom Speaker.
Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, praised residents of Ibiade and Abigi for their vigilance and ongoing collaboration.
“We appreciate the sustained communication and support from the communities.
“Their role was critical in preventing yet another crime and in the apprehension of these suspects,” he said.
In a separate crackdown, police arrested 14 suspected cultists from rival groups in Ijebu Ode on June 16.
The suspects were allegedly preparing for violent supremacy clashes during a university signing-out celebration.
They were apprehended in Ijagun, Ogbo, Ijele, and Imaweje areas by the Anti-Cultism team.
Odutola confirmed that all suspects, along with the recovered weapons, are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, where investigations are ongoing.
