The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and lawful conduct within the transportation sector of the state, warning that any group or individual found breaching this peace will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Command gave the warning on Thursday, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosing that only eight transport unions are authorized to operate and collect revenue within the public transport sector of the state.

The unions are: Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) – Buses and Taxis; National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) – in collaboration with Ogun Stations Operation Management Services (OSOMS) and Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM).

Others are: Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) – Motorcycle Taxis (Okada); Articulated Motorcycle and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN); Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO); Riders and Owners of Tricycle Organization (ROTO) – Tricycle Taxis (Marwa/Keke Napep); Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN); and Three Wheelers Operators and Riders Association (TWORA).

Odutola added that any illegal group found will face arrest and prosecution, urging all groups or associations seeking legal recognition to approach appropriate offices of the Ogun State Government for proper registration and approval processes.

She said, “The Command has been drawn to the unlawful activities of certain unapproved union operators who have been engaging in disruptive conduct, including fomenting trouble and creating unnecessary conflict with duly registered unions operating within the public transportation sector in Ogun State.

“Following a communiqué dated 8th of July, 2025, from the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation, the following unions, sub-sectors, and organizations are recognized as the only authorized bodies permitted to operate and collect revenue within the public transport sector in Ogun State: Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) – Buses and Taxis; National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) – in collaboration with Ogun Stations Operation Management Services (OSOMS) and Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM).

“In view of the above, any union, group, organization, or individual operating outside of these listed and authorized bodies is considered illegal and will be treated as engaging in unlawful activity and posing a threat to public safety,” she concluded.
