The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a viral video of a kidnapping incident alleged to have happened along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, on Monday, debunked the incident, saying it occured along the Ogun–Oyo boundary axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and not in Ogun State.

DAILY POST reports that the video depicted a supposed kidnap incident involving a Toyota Sienna vehicle with an unidentified man in blue traditional attire seated on the driver’s side, allegedly shot in the head and other passengers kidnapped.

The video also contained a background voice alleging that fulani herdsmen had opened fire on the car.

Responding to this, the police spokesperson disclosed that the incident had happened in 2022 and not 2025.

She said, “It is important to clarify that the incident is not recent and did not occur in Ogun State. Investigations reveal that it occurred in 2022, along the Ogun–Oyo boundary axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. This has been further confirmed by the Oyo State Police Comman.

Odutola warned members of the public against spreading outdated and misleading information that can incite ethnic tension, adding that any found in the act would be made to face the warth of the law.

“The Ogun State Police Command therefore cautions members of the public against spreading outdated and misleading information, especially those aimed at inciting ethnic tension, promoting misinformation, intolerance, and discrimination.

“Perpetrators of such acts are warned that these actions are punishable under extant laws” she added.

She urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, stressing that the command in collaboration with other security agencies, have degraded the capacity of criminal elements who engage in kidnapping for ransom and offenders have been arrested, prosecuted and duly convicted.
