The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Muniru Haruna, for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl (name withheld) at Orile-llugun in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement released to journalists on Sunday.

According to the statement, the victim’s mother, 20-year-old Alaba Abdullahi, reported the incident to the police at about 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Odutola explained that the distressing incident came to light when Alaba heard her child crying and went to investigate.

She reportedly found her daughter coming from the suspect’s room in visible distress.

Following the discovery, the mother sought assistance, and both the victim and the suspect were taken to General Hospital Odeda for medical examination and treatment.

“Alaba reported that Muniru Haruna, a 25-year-old man residing in the same area, allegedly committed the act while the victim was playing nearby.

“The incident was discovered when Alaba heard her child crying and quickly went to investigate, only to find her daughter emerging from the suspect’s room in evident distress.

“Upon further examination, it was revealed that the victim had difficulty walking and exhibited signs of physical trauma.

“Alaba immediately sought assistance, and both the victim and the suspect were transported to General Hospital Odeda for a medical examination and necessary treatment. Medical forms were issued, and the police await the doctor’s results.

“The suspect has been taken into custody and has denied the allegations against him,” Odutola stated.

The PPRO further said that the case has been handed over to the division crime branch for investigation and will be transferred to the State CID in Eleweran once the preliminary inquiry is concluded.

Odutola emphasised that the state police command is treating the allegation with utmost seriousness and is dedicated to securing justice for the victim.

She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding the community, particularly children.

She also encouraged anyone with relevant information about the incident to come forward and assist law enforcement in their investigation.
