The Drug Free Project, DFP, in Ogun State has sought the support of the Ministry of Sports Development in curbing the increasing rates of drug abuse amongst youths.

The Team lead of the Project, Bamidele Ifeoluwayimika made the call during a visit to the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.

Bamidele stated that the visit was aimed at seeking necessary support and collaboration of the Ministry which according to him, have a sizable influence over the teeming youth in the state.

He noted that the Ministry was a key stakeholder and had the capacity to effectively promote its sensitisation campaign against drug abuse through strategic sports approach, stressing that the most affected population is the youth bracket.

The DFP team Lead, explained that the drug free project is a youth led initiative, non-religious and non-governmental organisation committed to promoting awareness on the danger of drugs and also support affected individuals during rehabilitation.

Reacting, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Olanrewaju Ogunyinka, stated that the agency was aware of the menace that drug abuse could cause, hence, the need to jointly work together to reduce substance abuse among the youths.

Ogunyinka decried the high prevalence of drug abuse and attributed some of causal agents to poor parenting and bad influence, while directing the Director of Youth Development to closely work with the DFP in other to reduce the abuse of drugs among the youths.
