Ogun govt wades in after father of triplet flees hospital
The Ogun State Government has intervened in offsetting the bill of a 19-year-old mother identified as Temilola Adediran, who delivered triplets at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro, Abeokuta.
Temilola, who was reportedly preparing for her Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) when she became pregnant, delivered the triplets naturally, without undergoing a Caesarean section.
DAILY POST reports that the father of the children fled the hospital when he discovered that she had given birth.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, who led a delegation from the ministry including the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Jumoke Adewole, to pay a visit to the hospital on Thursday, disclosed that it was a response to a public call for support.
Adeleye extended a cash gift to the newborns and offset the medical bills, while other mothers in the maternity ward were also beneficiaries of thoughtful gifts and kind gestures.
She said, “We are here this morning because we heard that a woman delivered triplets and the husband has absconded. We couldn’t have been here if not for the support and mandate that has been given to us by a man that God has put at the helm of the affairs in Ogun State, and he’s Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON.
“All children in Ogun State matter to him. He’s very concerned about them, whether they have parents or not. The governor is committed to their welfare, and when we heard this, we just had to be here. We are here because the governor had directed us to care for all children in the state.
“Seeing the mother here today, all I can say is that it is a miracle,” she added.
Adeleye, on behalf of the state government, appreciated the professionalism and care demonstrated by the hospital management and medical team, led by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Arifalo Olawole.
Meanwhile, the commissioner assured the triplets’ mother of the ministry’s continuous support, stating that it extends beyond childbirth to long-term empowerment initiatives aimed at providing a reliable source of livelihood.
