Ogun Amotekun dismisses six new recruits over pregnancy

The Ogun State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, has dismissed six female recruits out of 125 from its training camp for being pregnant before joining the agency.

This move according to the State Corps Commander, Brig Gen Alade Adedigba(rtd), is aimed at prioritizing well-being and safeguarding the health of its recruits and maintaining a high standard of professionalism and discipline among its ranks.

DAILY POST gathered that the recruits were discovered after a routine pregnancy test conducted on about 125 female recruits in the camp.

According to the State Corps Commander, the agency’s decision is also a proactive measure to prevent any potential health complications or significant risks that may arise during the training period which would last for three weeks, such as threat of abortion or avoidable deformity.

He said, “The training we provide here is intense, rigorous and demanding, and we are concerned that the physical demands may pose risks such as threatening the pregnancies or causing avoidable deformities.

“The difficult but necessary decision is therefore taken in conformity with our usual practice of providing a safe and secure environment for our recruits, and this move aligns with our broader mission of public safety and health.

The Commander noted that the agency would be pleased to have the six female recruits on board following delivery during their next recruitment process, and he praised their tenacity and acknowledged their desire to serve their communities and defend the State.

“We appreciate their willingness to step forward and join our ranks; however, we must also ensure their health and the health of their children are not compromised.

“ So, as they prepare for their new journeys into motherhood, we assure them that their commitment to serve is commendable, and they will have the opportunity to fulfill their aspirations in our future recruitment process, when they return stronger after delivery”.

DAILY POST reports that the new recruits’ training exercise held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu, started on Sunday, July 6, 2025, and will end on Friday, July 18.
