Ogun 2024: Team Edo Cycling Coach Suspended As Team Bayelsa Maintains Lead
Team Edo Cycling coach Iyobosa Edobor has been suspended by the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) from further participation at the ongoing National Sports Festival due to unruly behaviour.
He was suspended from attending any cycling competitions and/or visiting the cycling venue with immediate effect,” for his unacceptable behaviour.
According to reports, Edobor threatened to kill the invited commissaire, Mr Osaretin Emuze, accusing him of influencing the outcome of the male team’s pursuits.
The CFN stated that the behaviour not only brought shame to the coach and his team but also compromised the integrity of the event.
The federation, however, stated that before the suspension could be lifted, the coach was required to write a letter of apology to the federation acknowledging his wrongdoing and promising not to engage in similar behaviour in the future.
It also warned that the letter of apology must reach the CFN within 48 hours, failure of which may result in further disciplinary actions.
Similarly, a 14-year-old swimmer, Aidan Dumuje-Abili, of Team Lagos, won the silver medal at the swimming event on Thursday.
He is a JSS 3 student of Grange School, Lagos, and he clocked a time of 1:04.15in the men’s backstroke to finish second.
Dumuje-Abili is representing Independent Junior Athletes, IJA, at the Gateway Games 2024.
Team Ogun’s Kolade Otunla won the gold medal in the event with a time of 1:02.41, while Duke Enyekamime of Team Delta won the bronze medal with a time of 1:04.70.
Meanwhile, Team Bayelsa maintained their lead at the top of the table with 28 gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze for a total of 50 medals, followed by Team Delta in second place with 20 gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze, totalling 47 medals.
Team Oyo is occupying the third position with nine gold, six silver, and 11 bronze medals to make it a total of 26 medals.
