Oborevwori meets Aladja, Ogbe-Ijoh war stakeholders, begs for peace

There are indications that Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities will now begin to enjoy peace following their decade long land dispute.

This may not be unconnected with the meeting between the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and leaders from both communities, on Monday.

The closed-door meeting, held at the Governor’s residence in Osubi, brought together key stakeholders from Udu and Warri South-West local government areas, along with members of the state’s peace committee handling the crisis, as part of renewed efforts by the state government to foster dialogue and achieve a sustainable resolution of their war.

Governor Oborevwori said the state was committed to lasting peace and stability in the region.

He commended community and youth leaders for showing restraint and a renewed willingness to find common ground over the crisis which has spanned decades.

“I am encouraged by your readiness to pursue peace. What we need now is patience, understanding and unity to move forward.”

“A formal pronouncement on the terms of the settlement agreed upon by both sides would be made in the coming days” the Governor assured.

During the dialogue, both communities reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and agreed to uphold the resolutions reached through earlier negotiations.

Representatives of the two communities thanked the Governor for his personal involvement in the reconciliation process and pledged to uphold the peace efforts initiated under his administration.
