The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved the sum of N1.1m as compensation for each victim of the Amagu- Nkalaha crisis in Ishielu Local Government Area, which occurred in February 2025.

The State Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila and Chairman of Interstate Boundaries Committee, announced this during a meeting with stakeholders of Ishielu and victims of the Nkalaha crisis in her office at Abakaliki.

Princess Obila appealed to the Nkalaha people and Fulani herdsmen to maintain peace in the area in reciprocation of the State Governor’s gesture. She assured them that the state would bring developmental projects to their area if peace is maintained.

The Deputy Governor announced that the payment would be flagged off on Thursday 14th August, 2025 at Ishielu Local Government Headquarters by 11am, and the fund would be disbursed to the profiled victims immediately through their bank details.

Princess Obila appreciated the State Governor for providing funds for the compensation to cushion the effect of the crisis on the victims, including the Fulani herdsmen who lost their cows.

Gunmen suspected to be herders had in February raided Amagu village in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state, killing residents and burning down houses.

The incident is believed to be a reprisal following the killing of some cattle belonging to the herders in the area.

Ebonyi State Police command confirmed that 10 people were killed and houses destroyed in the attack.
