NSCDC Seals Seven Illegal Private Guard Companies In Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has sealed seven private guard companies operating illegally within the nation’s capital.
The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, led the enforcement exercise on Wednesday during an operational tour across various districts in Abuja.
The affected companies include CEWARA Security in Wuse 2, Most Bright Security in Jabi, Security China and Ebowise Security, both in Jabi, Barumark Security in Wuye, Segad Security Protection Services in Prince and Princess Estate, and Prixair Security.
Odumosu disclosed that six of the companies were sealed for operating without valid licences, while one was penalised for using an expired licence.
He noted that the infractions ranged from failure to register as a private guard company, employment of unvetted personnel, refusal to undergo licensing procedures, and use of unauthorised insignia, which pose threats to national security and public interest.
“In line with the law, non-indigenous security organisations are prohibited. Before a PGC can legally operate, it must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and obtain a license from the NSCDC,” he emphasized.
Odumosu stressed that the crackdown is important for safeguarding internal security in the FCT, while linking the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the area to the failure of some companies to properly profile their security guards.
“Many of these operators engage random individuals, provide them with uniforms, and deploy them without verifying their background. This is dangerous and undermines national security,” he warned.
The commandant affirmed that the NSCDC will continue its routine operations to identify and seal non-compliant security outfits as part of efforts to sanitize the industry and deter future violations.
“Our goal is to ensure only licensed and well-regulated PGCs operate within the FCT,” he stated.
The NSCDC urged residents and corporate bodies to engage only verified security firms duly accredited by the Corps.
