NSCDC Retrains Officers On Protection Of FCT Schools

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has conducted a two-day intensive refresher training for its Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Desk Officers under the Safe School Programme.
The in-house capacity-building exercise, which commenced on Monday and ended on Tuesday, May 13, was championed by the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu.
According to a statement on Wednesday by DSC Monica Ojobi, Acting Public Relations Officer, NSCDC FCT Command, the training aimed to broaden participants’ understanding and equip officers with modern security strategies necessary to respond effectively to emerging threats within school environments.
While declaring the training closed, Odumosu charged officers to be relentless in their commitment to safeguarding schools and ensure a secure learning atmosphere for children in the FCT.
“We must be proactive in our approach. You must perform your duty with utmost dedication and determination so that school environments and our children remain safe at all times,” Odumosu said.
He reiterated NSCDC’s role as the lead agency in the Safe School Programme, and called on officers to carve a niche for themselves and deliver results that reflect professionalism and service excellence.
He said, “As the lead agency in the Safe School programme, the protection of the environment and students is sacrosanct. You must thrive to further advance school security through your excellent performances.”
The Commandant also instructed officers to maintain active surveillance and regular patrols around schools, while fostering cordial and trust-driven relationships with school management.
He noted that this approach was essential to boost community confidence and quelling any fears around school safety.
Odumosu further directed that accurate data and statistics of all schools within the FCT be compiled to assist in strategic planning and ensure comprehensive coverage by the Corps.
“The Safe School Initiative, among other mandates of the Corps, represents our commitment to delivering quality service to our communities. For that reason, you must give it your best shot,” he said.
