NSCDC rescues wandering child abandoned on Imesi Ile road
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command, has announced the rescue of an eight-year-old boy found wandering along the Imesi-Ile/Otan-Ile Road in Osun State.
The child, identified only as Elijah, was, according to a statement by Adeleke Kehinde, the Command spokesperson, discovered in a distressed state, showing signs of confusion and unable to provide clear answers to questions posed by security officials.
According to the NSCDC, Elijah disclosed that he had been picked up by an unidentified man in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, before being abandoned in Osun.
“He explained that his mother had sent him to buy an item, but he could not remember his surname or provide any other contact details about his parents,” the statement said.
The boy also stated that his father is a farmer and that the family resides in Auchi, Edo State.
However, he was unable to provide further information that could assist in locating his relatives.
Elijah further narrated that after being taken away by the unidentified man, he was eventually dropped off at Imesi-Ile, leaving him stranded and unsure of how to find his way back home.
The NSCDC said it has since conducted investigations in the Imesi-Ile and Otan-Ile areas.
Community leaders from both towns were invited to assist in identifying the child, but no one was able to recognise him.
“The only consistent detail the child has provided is that he lives with his parents in Auchi and was abandoned in the Imesi-Ile/Otan-Ile area by an unknown individual,” the statement read.
Officials confirmed that Elijah is currently in the custody of the Osun State Command while efforts are ongoing to trace his family.
The Corps called on members of the public with credible information to come forward and assist in reuniting the boy with his parents.
“Anyone who recognises Elijah or has useful information should contact the NSCDC Osun State Command immediately,” Adeleke urged.
The Command assured the public that the welfare and safety of the child remain a priority until his family is located.
