NSCDC Pledges Enhanced Security For NYSC Members In FCT

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the safety of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the Federal Capital Territory.
The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mr. Ateli Samson, to the command headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Odumosu described corps members as “national assets” whose safety will be prioritised at all times.
Odumosu, while congratulating Samson on his appointment, reiterated the NSCDC’s dedication to fostering national unity and development through strategic partnerships, while noting that the Corps views the NYSC as a key institution in the nation’s growth trajectory.
“I consider the NYSC as critical national assets of the country and, for that reason, the Corps is ready at all times to give you the needed support and assistance where necessary,” DSC Monica Ojobi, spokesperson for FCT NSCDC Command, quoted Odumosu to have stated.
He emphasised that the NSCDC, which is statutorily responsible for safeguarding critical national infrastructure, would extend that same protective mandate to NYSC members before, during, and after their orientation camps.
He added that officers will continue to be deployed to NYSC camps to ensure a secure and conducive environment.
“Your visit has given us an added responsibility to assist and support Corps members beyond the camp, and we will not renege on our promises,” he assured.
In his remark, Samson expressed appreciation for the longstanding synergy between both institutions and called for deeper collaboration, especially as the Scheme prepares for consecutive orientation exercises to address backlog in mobilizations.
“We are embarking on back-to-back orientation for both streams A and B, and security is critical in managing this process effectively,” Samson said.
He also commended the NSCDC for its consistent support and prayed for the continuity of the strong relationship between the two agencies.
