The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to tackle the scourge of drug and substance abuse in the state.

The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, said this after receiving the newly deployed NDLEA boss and Commander of Narcotics, Charles Onubuogu, on Monday.

Speaking during the visit, Maku emphasised the need to sustain the robust relationship between the two agencies.

“Your presence here will strengthen our collaboration. Most of the security issues we are facing stem from illicit drug consumption.

“The current level of drug abuse and trafficking among the youths is alarming and, if left unchecked, poses a significant threat to the nation’s well-being,” he stated in a statement signed by the NSCDC spokesperson in Anambra, Okadigbo Edwin.

Maku assured the NDLEA of the Corps’ commitment to providing operational and intelligence support to the agency, in its efforts to rid the state of drug dealers.

Highlighting the dangers of drug abuse, he pledged to collaborate with the NDLEA to reduce its prevalence in the state.

Onubuogu on his part, stated that the purpose of his visit was to establish a strong rapport and solicit robust support from the Corps.

He expressed his eagerness to enhance the partnership between the NDLEA and NSCDC in tackling drug abuse in the state and advocated for increased cooperation between both agencies.

The NDLEA state commander emphasised that combating drug abuse is a collective responsibility, as its negative impacts affect everyone.

He added that no agency can operate effectively in isolation, regardless of its specific role, and stressed that collaboration is essential to successfully combat crime and meet individual agency goals.
