NSCDC Mining Marshals Shut Down Illegal Site In Kaduna
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have shut down an illegal mining site in the Damau community, in the Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The operation comes in the wake of a directive issued by the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mandating a nationwide strategic approach to curb insecurity, vandalism of public infrastructure, and economic sabotage.
According to a statement signed on Monday by Afolabi Babawale, the National Public Relations Officer for NSCDC, the illegal site, rich in tin deposits and belonging to Trobell Minerals Limited, had been overtaken by unauthorised miners for several months.
Authorities revealed that the illicit activities had caused economic losses, environmental damage, and heightened insecurity in the area.
Meanwhile, the NSCDC Mining Marshals engaged traditional rulers and youth leaders in a dialogue, which resulted in the peaceful withdrawal of illegal miners under official supervision.

Stakeholders praised the approach and highlighted its effectiveness in resolving the crisis without conflict.
“The activities of illegal miners had posed serious threats to human lives, livelihoods, and investment. This intervention has brought a long-awaited relief,” the stakeholders said.
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, who spoke during the first-year anniversary of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the special unit.
He commended the officers for their professionalism and pledged continued logistical and operational support.
“The reward for hard work is more work,” Dr Alake stated, and encouraged the officers to sustain their momentum in the fight against illegal mining.
In his remarks, the Commander of the Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant Attah John Onoja, reiterated the unit’s resolve.
“The fight against illegal mining across the federation remains a top priority and is non-negotiable,” he said.
