NSCDC Impounds Truck With Stolen Crude Oil In Port Harcourt
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has impounded a truck loaded with stolen crude oil in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS), acting on intelligence, intercepted a long caravan truck with an in-built tank fully loaded with siphoned crude oil.
CSC Afolabi Babawale, the National Public Relations Officer of the corps in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the vehicle was sighted in transit around the Eleme flyover in Elelewon and seized by the operatives.
Speaking on the development, the CG’s SIS Commander, Commandant AS Dandaura, stated that his team mobilized to the scene, where they impounded a red-head navy blue container truck with registration number AGL 574 XY.
According to Dandaura, the truck was found to contain approximately 70,000 litres of stolen crude oil, illegally drawn from vandalized wellheads and destroyed pipelines.
“The conveyers of the truck fled the scene upon sighting our operatives, abandoning the vehicle and its illicit cargo.
“We have already confiscated the exhibits, and a thorough investigation has been launched to track down the syndicate behind this act of economic sabotage,” Commandant Dandaura revealed.
NSCDC further disclosed that, upon completion of the investigation, the agency would seek a court order for the forfeiture of the truck and its contents.
“The proceeds from the forfeiture will be remitted to the Proceeds of Crime Account (POCA),” the statement added.
Dandaura while reaffirming the squad’s commitment to tackling oil theft, assured that all those involved in the crime would be brought to justice.
“We will continue waging an unrelenting war against oil thieves and their sponsors,” he said.
The NSCDC has reiterated its resolve to work closely with relevant security agencies to protect the nation’s critical oil infrastructure and safeguard its economic assets from criminal elements.
