NSCDC, Group Strengthen Partnership Against Child Trafficking In Anambra
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has expressed its commitment to ending child trafficking, abuse, and child labour in the state.
The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, gave the assurance in a statement on Thursday, signed by the spokesperson, SC Okadigbo Edwin.
The decision followed a meeting with members of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) at the NSCDC Command Headquarters in Awka.
Maku said tackling the problem requires the collective effort of all stakeholders — parents, guardians, law enforcement, and the community.
He noted that the NSCDC would continue to protect vulnerable groups, especially children, in line with the Child’s Rights Act of 2003.
“The safety and dignity of Nigerian children are non-negotiable. The sale and trafficking of children are crimes against humanity,” he said.
NACTAL’s Anambra Coordinator, Eucheria Onyemaobi, said the visit was aimed at improving joint efforts to fight the rising cases of child trafficking and abuse in the state.
“This courtesy visit is a strategic move to leverage the gains that the partnership between the NSCDC and NACTAL has recorded over the years,” she said.
She called for a united approach, saying, “We need joint collaborative efforts and a whole-of-society approach to address child trafficking, which remains a serious problem.”
The meeting ended with both parties pledging continued cooperation in protecting children from exploitation and harm.
