The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced collaboration with the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to address security challenges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The move was revealed by the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, during a courtesy visit by the recently deployed DSS State Director, FCT Command, Usman Dauda, in Abuja, the state capital.

Odumosu said the partnership would restore peace to the FCT while noting that Nigeria’s security challenges do not require a monopolistic approach.

He said, “Of course, we know there is no security agency with a monopoly of strategy, hence, the need for inter-dependence on each other for better results in our efforts to guarantee security and safety for the citizens”.

“Our Command is well disposed to strengthening this well-established relationship” Odumosu said in a statement signed by Acting FCT Command Public Relations Officer DSC Monica Ojobi

He continued, ‘The NSCDC and DSS have been partners in progress over time.

“We have also been enjoying the same with other sister agencies because our duties are intertwined and your visit today consolidates that synergy which is sacrosanct in carrying out our assigned mandates in the territory”.

He further assured Dauda, of the Command’s maximum cooperation in areas that interface on the job, especially in “intelligence sharing and other security joint operations within the FCT”.

“We will continue to enhance our collaboration with the DSS to curb criminalities and other societal vices by leveraging on our existing relationship to improve security, and ensure that peace and order reigns supreme in the FCT and its environs”, Odumosu pledged.

In his remarks, the DSS boss said the visit would strengthen existing synergy with the NSCDC.

He also noted that the Act that established the Corps gave it many responsibilities with the expectation of closing the National security gap.

“Efforts are ongoing to take the country where it ought to be security-wise wise” Dauda said, noting that “when every stakeholder brings their capacity and experience to the table, we will arrive at a stronger and more desirable national security destination in no time”.

He assured the Commandant of the continued support and collaboration of the DSS in the field and areas that require collaboration.
