NSCDC Begins 300-Unit Affordable Housing In Lagos For Officers

The Lagos Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday flagged off the construction of 300 units of affordable housing for its personnel in Igbehin Community, Lagos State.
The housing scheme, is said to be a project of the NSCDC Lagos Command Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, and is aimed at providing officers with access to home ownership.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Lagos State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, described the initiative as a commendable effort to secure the welfare of officers and men of the corps.
“It is not good for an officer to retire without having a house of his own. It is based on that that the NSCDC cooperative made an effort to make the housing units possible. It comprises 300 units of mini flats and two-bedroom flats which will be allocated based on interest,” Keshinro said.
Keshinro added that the development was in line with the directive of the Commandant General (CG) of the corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, who had emphasised the importance of ensuring that personnel have roofs over their heads.
Similarly, the President of the cooperative society, Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Kehinde Soetan, said the scheme reflects the cooperative’s core purpose of improving members’ welfare.
“This housing project is a great opportunity for every member as it is affordable and has a great payment plan,” Soetan said.
He noted that the project would be executed in phases, with 149 buildings covered in the first phase and the first 50 units expected to be inaugurated by September 17.
The Managing Director of Youniverse Properties Limited, Mr Nicolas Orakwe, whose company is handling the project, assured that construction would be completed within three years.
Orakwe disclosed that the one- and two-bedroom units would be built with locally sourced materials and fully funded by Youniverse, with a flexible five-year repayment plan for the officers.
The project is expected to contribute to the welfare of NSCDC personnel and also to the development of the Igbehin community.
