Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested two suspected criminals in connection with drug peddling and burglary in separate operations across the state.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Wednesday.

“The NSCDC operatives have recorded another breakthrough in the fight against crime, following the arrest of two suspected criminals in separate operations,” the statement read.

According to Abdullahi, the first suspect, 42-year-old Basiru Ahmed, was apprehended at Salanta in the Gwale Local Government Area for alleged drug dealing.

He was found in possession of over 106 parcels of substances believed to be Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa).

He said the arrest followed credible intelligence reports, and the suspect was caught red-handed selling and distributing the illegal substance within the community.

Ahmed has since been handed over to the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

In a related operation, NSCDC officers also arrested 22-year-old Muhammad Abbas at Gurungawa in the Kumbotso Local Government Area for alleged burglary.

Abbas, who had reportedly been on the security watchlist, was accused of breaking into residential homes and stealing property worth hundreds of thousands of naira.

He was arrested during a coordinated patrol aimed at curbing theft and related crimes in the area.

The corps stated that all suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

While commending the success of the operations, the command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to help rid communities of criminal elements.
