The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) may slash the cost of train service as the corporation has announced a special Christmas train service for Christmas and New Year travelers.

The corporation announced this on Thursday via its official X handle, formerly Twitter.

The statement signed by the Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakubu Mahmood did not reveal the nature of the special service.

However, it is expected that the package would ease holiday travel amidst the high cost of road and air transportation.

NRC said, “The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive through the Federal Ministry of Transportation, hereby informs the general public that the NRC shall operate end-of-the-year special train services in commemoration of Christmas and New Year celebrations.”

According to NRC, the special train service is part of efforts initiated by the Federal Ministry of Transportation to ameliorate the current hardship.

The corporation further said that the modalities for the intervention will be disclosed to Nigerians.

“This end-of-the-year special train service on scheduled passenger trains is part of the government’s gesture towards an enjoyable end-of-the-year celebration.

“Dates and modalities of the end-of-the-year Special Train Service shall be communicated in due course,” NRC added.
